Affiliate links
Unveil China participates in affiliate programmes with travel companies whose products we genuinely use and recommend — hotel booking platforms (such as Trip.com and Agoda), eSIM and connectivity providers, VPN services, travel insurers, and tour and activity platforms. When you click one of these links and make a booking or purchase, the partner may pay us a small commission. The price you pay is exactly the same as if you’d gone to them directly.
Affiliate links are marked at the code level with rel="sponsored", as search engines require. If a page contains affiliate links, this disclosure applies to it.
What affiliate money never buys
Three hard rules we hold ourselves to:
1. Reviews are not for sale. No venue, hotel or product can pay for a positive review, a “Queer favourite” badge, or a place in a ranking. Our venue write-ups are researched independently, and when we can’t verify something, we say so on the page.
2. Honesty beats commission. Where the honest advice earns us nothing — “this city has no gay saunas, don’t waste your evening”, “this listing looks closed, check before you go” — we publish the honest advice. You’ll find plenty of examples across the site.
3. Sponsors are labelled. Paid placements (see our advertising page) are visually distinct and never disguised as editorial content.
Advertising & sponsored placements
We offer clearly-labelled commercial placements to venues, hotels and travel brands that serve LGBTQ+ travellers — details on the Advertise with us page. Accepting a placement never changes what we write in our independent guides.
Our own products
Unveil China also sells its own private and group tours of China. Tour pages are commercial pages and are presented as such.
