A theatrical speakeasy hidden in an old Ximending cinema, pouring nearly 100 creative cocktails in quirky vessels.
Hanko 60 hides behind the facade of the old Xinsheng Theatre on Hankou Street, a Prohibition-styled speakeasy that opened in 2016 and has become one of Ximending's signature drinking dens. Neon reflects off the bar in the gloom, and the draw is a list of close to a hundred inventive cocktails, each served in its own bespoke, often theatrical vessel, hence the 'as if drunk, as if dreaming' tagline. Staff are warm and the drinks are as fun to photograph as to drink.
It's a creative cocktail bar with a broad, mixed clientele rather than a gay venue as such, but its position in the heart of the West End nightlife district makes it a stylish stop on a night out. There's a minimum spend of NT$500 plus 10% service, and a two-hour limit when full. Hours are Sun-Thu 20:00-02:00 and Fri-Sat 20:00-03:00.
