Beitou's budget classic, the open-air Millennium (千禧湯) public pools fed by sulphur springs, with city views from the hillside.
For an authentic, wallet-friendly soak, the Millennium Hot Spring (千禧湯) is Beitou's open-air public bathhouse, terraced into the hillside of Beitou Park beside the famous green-sulphur (qing-huang) springs. There are six outdoor pools, four hot and two cold, with the hot water typically in the low 40s Celsius. It's mixed-sex, so swimwear is required, and entry is a bargain at NT$60 (NT$30 concession). The setting, steam rising amid the trees with the valley below, is pure old Taipei.
Sessions run in fixed blocks across the day from early morning to night, roughly 05:30 through to 22:00 with the pool cleared between each. Important: the baths closed in January 2025 for a major year-long refurbishment and were renovation has overrun — still shut well into 2026, check before visiting, so confirm they're operating before you travel. As a public bath this is a discreet, family-friendly soak rather than a gay venue, though Beitou is a beloved day-trip for everyone.
