The scale of the square is difficult to comprehend until you stand in its centre, looking out at the surrounding buildings. The sheer immensity of it all is quite overwhelming. It’s a place where history feels palpable, a powerful reminder of the country’s complex and often turbulent past. Later that day, I visited the Temple of Heaven, a beautiful complex of religious buildings where emperors would perform ceremonies to Heaven. The serenity of the place was a stark contrast to the bustling city, a peaceful oasis amidst the urban sprawl.

My next destination was Xi'an, a city steeped in history and famous for its Terracotta Army. The journey itself was an adventure, a high-speed train ride that showcased the remarkable infrastructure of modern China. Arriving in Xi'an, I was immediately struck by the city's unique blend of ancient and modern. The Terracotta Army was even more impressive than I had imagined. I explored the Bund, a historic waterfront promenade offering stunning views of the city's impressive skyline. The juxtaposition of old colonial-era buildings and modern skyscrapers was visually striking, a testament to the city's rich history and its dynamic present. I also visited the Yu Garden, a tranquil oasis in the heart of the city, offering a welcome escape from the frenetic pace of modern life.

Throughout my travels, I was struck by the warmth and hospitality of the Chinese people.
