Chinese Proficiency Examination for Master‘s Degree76
The Chinese Proficiency Examination for Master's Degree (CEMD) is a standardized test designed to assess the Chinese language proficiency of non-native speakers who intend to pursue a master's degree in China. The exam is administered by the Hanban, an affiliate of the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China.
The CEMD consists of four sections:
Listening Comprehension (30%): This section tests the candidate's ability to understand spoken Chinese in various contexts, including lectures, news broadcasts, and conversations.
Reading Comprehension (30%): This section evaluates the candidate's ability to read and comprehend written Chinese in various formats, such as articles, essays, and academic texts.
Writing (20%): This section requires the candidate to produce a Chinese essay on a given topic. The essay should demonstrate the candidate's ability to organize thoughts, use appropriate grammar and vocabulary, and express ideas clearly.
Comprehensive Skills (20%): This section includes a variety of tasks that test the candidate's overall Chinese language proficiency, such as translation, summary writing, and sentence construction.
The CEMD is offered twice a year, in March and September. The exam is administered at designated test centers in various countries around the world. Candidates can register for the exam online through the Hanban website.
To prepare for the CEMD, candidates are advised to study a comprehensive Chinese language curriculum that covers all four sections of the exam. There are numerous resources available online and in libraries, including textbooks, workbooks, and practice tests. Additionally, many universities and language schools offer preparatory courses for the CEMD.
The CEMD is a challenging exam, but it is an essential requirement for non-native speakers who wish to pursue a master's degree in China. By achieving a high score on the CEMD, candidates demonstrate their proficiency in the Chinese language and their commitment to academic excellence.
