U.S. Lowers Travel Advisory for China48

The U.S. State Department has lowered its travel advisory for China from Level 4: Do Not Travel to Level 3: Reconsider Travel. The new advisory, issued on July 15, 2023, reflects an improvement in the COVID-19 situation in China and the easing of travel restrictions by the Chinese government.

The Level 3 advisory still warns travelers to exercise increased caution due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. However, it no longer recommends against all travel to China. Travelers are advised to be aware of the risks of traveling during the pandemic, including the possibility of travel disruptions and quarantine requirements.

The State Department also urges travelers to register with the U.S. Embassy in Beijing or the U.S. Consulate General in Guangzhou before their trip. This will help the U.S. government provide assistance in case of an emergency.

The Chinese government has recently eased some of its travel restrictions, including allowing foreign tourists to enter the country for the first time in nearly three years. However, travelers should still be aware of the following requirements:
All travelers must have a valid visa to enter China.
Travelers must provide a negative COVID-19 test result taken within 48 hours of departure.
Travelers may be subject to additional health screenings upon arrival in China.
Travelers may be required to quarantine for a period of time after arriving in China.

The State Department recommends that travelers check with their airline or travel agent for the latest information on travel requirements and restrictions.

Despite the easing of travel restrictions, the State Department still advises travelers to be aware of the potential risks of traveling to China during the COVID-19 pandemic. These risks include:
The possibility of travel disruptions, including flight cancellations and delays.
The possibility of quarantine requirements, which could disrupt travel plans.
The possibility of contracting COVID-19 while in China.

Travelers should also be aware that the situation in China is fluid and could change at any time. The State Department recommends that travelers stay informed about the latest developments and make informed decisions about their travel plans.
